The B5Media network:

Something else coming soon…Light Rail

If you want to keep up on the latest news that’s happening about and around the new Phoenix Light Rail (scheduled to begin operating at the end of December), check out these Web sites and blogs:

Valley Metro Light Rail–This is the official site of the rail line. You can get tickets here, map out where you want to go, and stay updated about opening day and the free rides to follow.

Rail Life / Rail Life Blog–This is Nick Bastian’s blog (the first and then the updated site) where he posts about rail happenings. He’ll tell you everything you need to know about “rail life.”

PHX Rail Food–I love this blog! The owner reviews restaurants–new and old–along the rail line, and tells you where the restaurants are in terms of station location. It’s a great place to go when you’re hungry for a cultural experience.

Arizona Rail Passenger Association–Click here to find news about light rail events in Arizona, including testing days. It’s interesting.

I, for one, can’t wait to ride the light rail cars. Friends and I are planning to do the entire 20 miles for no other particular purpose than to see where we wind up–and to stop off at a few restaurants and bars along the way. When we do, I’ll be blogging about it. Stay tuned for that…

I didn’t even know Phoenix was launching a light rail — let alone that it was getting ready to open.

I’ll be anxious to check it out next time I’m in town.

I’ve also have a website dedicated strictly to METRO light rail and the happenings around the Downtown and Midtown Phoenix area. It’s been so exciting watching the testing and I can’t wait for Dec. 27th!!

    Mary Jo,

Next time you’re in Phoenix, give me a call. We can meet over coffee on a Light Rail stop, perhaps the Light Rail Cafe in uptown. I wrote about it for US Airways in an article that will appear in the December issue.

    Nick,

I love your site; I check in periodically to find out what’s new.

    And Tony,

Go ahead and post your blog address. I haven’t yet put together a blogroll, but that’s on my list of things to do here at the site. I’ll check out your site today. Would you guys list me on yours?

And by the way, I’ve been waiting for Light Rail to come to Phoenix since the late 1980s, when I edited a construction magazine here in Phoenix…and it got voted down the first time. I remember there was talk of a station at the intersection of 24th Street and Camelback, which would have been amazing. It could still happen…

It’s been a long time coming, and now that it’s arrived, I think it’s going to make our city so much more vibrant. I just can’t wait to ride. Who knew you could get so excited about a train?!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. I hope you’ll come back.

    Jackie

I do want to check out the light rail and go for a ride. However, I think it was yesterday I heard on the news that there was already an accident involving a pedestrian. I guess Phoenicians aren’t quite used to looking both ways for the light rail. We’d better wise up though.

    Debbie,

That’s sad to hear. It will be a huge adjustment for us Phoenicians. But it’s going to impact the Valley in a good way, I hope. Valley Metro has been getting the word out about safety for quite some time now. I’m sure they don’t want injuries. The rail cars were designed to lesson impact if someone should be hit by them as they are quiet, and large–so they know it’s more than possible if people aren’t careful.

I hope this will not be a regular occurance. Let’s pray that it won’t be.

    Jackie
