With multiple access points from all sides of the mountains and 17 miles across the top from one end to the other, you don't have to travel far to experience great hiking in Phoenix. My favorite (and the favorite of many Ahwatukee residents) at a little under 3 miles roundtrip is Telegraph Pass. Just a little farther and you end up at the Rock House for great views, a landmark I remember as a young girl. I agree Jackie; South Mountain trail system is a Phoenix treasure!
